Accessibility statement

A visual site has to work without the visuals. Here is where we are, including the parts that are not finished.

Reviewed 2 September 2026 · target WCAG 2.2 level AA

Conformance status

AtelierPlate aims at WCAG 2.2 level AA. As of the review date the site is partially conformant: it meets level AA except for the items listed under known gaps, each of which has an owner and a date.

What is in place

  • Every interactive control is a real button, a or form field, reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus ring that is never removed.
  • The plating style switch, palette filters and component builder use aria-pressed, so a screen reader announces the state rather than only the label.
  • Filtering and the component readout announce their result through a polite live region, so a change is heard as well as seen.
  • Assembly diagrams are decorative duplicates of the numbered written steps, and are marked aria-hidden so they are not read twice.
  • Photographs carry descriptive alternative text written by the person who took them. Decorative background imagery has empty alt text.
  • Body text meets 4.5:1 contrast against the paper ground, and the ultramarine section meets 4.5:1 in reverse.
  • All motion is opacity and transform only, and collapses entirely under prefers-reduced-motion.
  • Layout reflows to 320 CSS pixels without horizontal scrolling, and survives 200 percent zoom with no loss of content.
  • Type is set in relative units, so browser font size settings are respected.

Technique clips on recipe pages have captions but no audio description1.2.5 AAQ1 2027
The pantry rail scrolls horizontally. Arrow keys move it once it has focus, but there are no visible previous and next controls2.4.3 ANovember 2026
The component builder swaps the written parts but keeps one fixed photograph per slot, so the strip can read as stale next to the new text1.3.1 AOctober 2026

How we test

Manual keyboard walkthrough of every page before release. VoiceOver on macOS and Safari, NVDA on Windows and Firefox, once per edition. Axe DevTools on each template. Contrast checked in OKLCH at design time rather than corrected afterwards. Reflow checked at 320, 360, 768, 1024 and 1440 pixels.

Reporting a barrier

Email [email protected] with the page address and what happened. We reply within five working days. If a recipe is unusable for you, ask and we will send it as plain text or as a large-print PDF, at no cost, without asking why.
